What's The Difference between Inkjet Printer and Laser Printer?

2022-04-14 16:06:11

It's important to know the difference between an inkjet printer and a laser printer when deciding what kind of printer to buy. Of course, you could just ask your neighbor or look it up on Google, but if you're looking for a more convenient way to get information about inkjet printers and laser printers, you might want to consider using the Internet instead.

We've put together a quick guide to help you learn more about how these two types of printers work and how they are different from each other.

1. Laser Printers are more expensive than inkjet printers

Laser printers are, on average, more expensive than inkjet printers.

The initial cost of a laser printer is higher because they are designed to print more pages with less ink over time. Although the up-front cost for the printer may be greater, the long-term cost of using a laser printer will be lower because you will not have to replace the ink as frequently.

Inkjet printers use small jets to spray layers of ink onto paper in order to print. They are often used for printing full-color photos and documents and can be purchased at a lower cost than laser printers. However, over time, the ink will dry out if it is not used regularly. The frequency with which you need to replace your cartridge depends on how much you use your printer every day.

Laser printers use toner and a heated drum that transfers the toner onto the paper, making images by fusing the toner onto the paper to create text and images. This process allows laser printers to print faster than inkjet printers. Laser printers are more durable than inkjet printers and work well in high-volume situations where they need to handle large amounts of paper daily with minimal downtime between tasks.

2. Inkjet printers are much faster than laser printers

It's true that laser printers cost more than inkjet printers, but the difference in quality is well worth the added expense. Laser printers are much faster than inkjet printers, and use dry toner to fix text and images onto pages instead of wet ink. This means you can print crisp, colorful documents in seconds instead of minutes. Additionally, you don't have to wait for the printed page to dry with a laser printer as you do with an inkjet printer, so you don't run the risk of smudging the page or leaving behind marks on your hands.

3. Laser printers don't get clogged up as easily as inkjet printers

Laser printers are a better choice for your office than inkjet printers for one reason: clogs.

If you use an inkjet printer in your office, you've probably had to deal with messy, time-consuming clogs. You know the kind: you're in the middle of printing a big project, and suddenly the whole thing is covered in smudged ink that's bleeding into each other. Awful. Or even worse—you go to print something important and there's no link at all!

But laser printers don't get clogged up as easily as their inkjet counterparts, so they're way less hassle. Plus, they're more affordable, to begin with. That means they could save you a bundle by cutting down on wasted ink and paper—and who doesn't like a little extra money in their pocket?

4. You can get away with spending less on toner compared to ink

If you're looking to save money in the long run, laser printers may be a better option. Laser printer toner is more expensive than inkjet cartridges when it comes to cost per printed page, but the truth is that laser toners are generally more cost-effective in the long run.

The average ink cartridge can print about 300 pages, and replacement cartridges can cost around $30. The average toner cartridge can print about 2,000 pages and costs around $60. You can get away with spending less on toner compared to ink because the cartridges last so much longer and often print larger quantities of paper for every cycle.

While you might end up spending slightly more upfront on a laser printer as opposed to an inkjet one, you'll pay less in the long run if you print frequently. And if you don't print often, laser printers tend to keep their quality over time better than their inkjet counterparts due to not having the liquid inside of them that's prone to drying out or leaking.

5. You can install a laser printer without cables

Are you tired of your office printer being right in the middle of everything? Do you have to navigate around it every time you need to get to a different part of the room? Are you annoyed with having to untangle the cords every time a cable comes loose at the power strip?

Well, now you can install a laser printer without cables.

No more tripping over cords, no more fiddling with plugs and outlets. You can place your printer anywhere and enjoy clean-cut text, sharp graphics, and excellent resolution.

With an inkjet printer, you don’t have the same luxury. Inkjet printers depend on ink cartridges that are expensive and require frequent replacement. They also use up a lot more electricity than their laser counterparts do, which is bad for the environment. The print quality is lower too.

6. Laser printers are much quieter than inkjet printers

Laser printers are much quieter than inkjet printers. Because of their greater precision, laser printers can print more simple lines and fewer curves, which means that they don't need to create as many dots on a single page. This allows the laser to shut off between each line of text, making it a much quieter experience.

In comparison, inkjet printers use more dots and curves, which means that the printer head must keep moving back and forth across the page as it prints. These small motions, combined with the loud sounds of the printing mechanism itself, create a much louder experience for you—the user—when using an inkjet printer.
